Basic Chicken Bone Broth
Bone broth is a great way to get healing nutrients into your body! Ever heard of leaky gut? This is your magic - full of minerals, gelatin, glycine, proline and other healing goodness. Bone broth can be used as in place of stock or broth in any recipe. I love how I can use the bones from cooking in a way that is so healthful and inexpensive! Who needs to buy broth? You'll notice there is no Apple Cider Vinegar in this recipe, that's because it can cause some of the nutrients to turn into MSG in the body. Just cook it low and slow and you'll get all the benefits.
Ingredients
- 2-3 organic chicken carcasses
- filtered water Enough to cover the bones
- 3-5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 med-large onion, cut into large chunks
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
Instructions
- Place 2-3 chicken carcasses in a pot/slow/cooker or crock-pot. Cover with filtered water.
- Add the garlic cloves, raw onion chunks, and sea salt to the pot.
- Simmer for 24-48 hours.
- Strain and discard bones and vegetables. Use immediately as a broth for soups, drink as a broth or divide into mason jars and store in the freezer until needed. You can also freeze in ice cube trays for smaller amounts of broth for cooking.
Notes
Notes:
Using organic chicken bones is important so that you are pulling clean nutrients into your broth.
I freeze carcasses from whole chickens I've roasted at home; simply remove the meat and freeze in a ziplock.
If you have issues with histamine intolerance, simply reduce the cooking time to 8-12 hours.
